Across Europe, the legal innovation conversation has moved beyond experimentation towards a more pressing question: how can new technologies deliver measurable value while remaining aligned with governance, compliance, and professional responsibility?
That focus closely reflects the mission of ALOF (Association Legal Ops Francophone), making this conversation with its Legal Operations / Chef de projet juridique, LegalTech et Innovation, Muriel Gbegnito, particularly timely. As one of the leading voices in the francophone legal operations community, Muriel shares her perspective on AI adoption, legal transformation, and the unique dynamics shaping the European market.
Later this month, Muriel will join us at Legal Innovators Europe - France 2026 for the Private Practice Day panel, ‘’Show Me The ROI On Legal AI!’’, exploring how legal organisations can move beyond promise and demonstrate genuine business impact from AI investments.
Below, she offers her thoughts on where the profession stands today, and where it may be heading next.
Could you introduce ALOF to readers who may not be familiar with your
organisation?
ALOF Association Legal Ops Francophone is the reference organisation bringing together professionals committed to the digital transformation of law and legal innovation within the French-speaking world. We unite General Counsels, Legal Operations professionals, and anyone working at the intersection of law, technology, and business strategy.
Our mission has three pillars: promoting the development and use of legal technologies; supporting national legaltech associations; and strengthening ties between all players in the francophone legal ecosystem law firms, in-house legal teams, regulators, and technology companies.
Why did ALOF decide to partner with Legal Innovators Europe 2026?
Legal Innovators Europe is exactly the kind of event that mirrors our values: grounded in practice, forward-thinking, and genuinely focused on what is happening right now in the legal world, not theoretical debates, but real conversations about implementation, ROI, compliance, and the human side of change.
When we looked at this year's agenda covering everything from sovereign AI in Europe to the evolution of CLM platforms to the future of the billable hour we saw our members’ daily challenges reflected on stage. We want our community to be part of that conversation, and to bring the francophone legal ops perspective into the room.
Which topics on this year's agenda are most relevant to the ALOF community?
Several sessions stand out. The panel on Innovation Readiness: Getting Transformation Right the First Time speaks directly to something we hear constantly from our members, many organisations are moving fast but not always building on solid foundations. The discussion around AI, compliance, and legal data is equally critical given the EU AI Act and the very real governance questions in-house teams are wrestling with today.
We are also very interested in the session on self-service with AI, the question of how far legal teams can safely delegate certain tasks to the wider business is one of the most practical and pressing issues for legal ops professionals right now. And of course, the fireside chat on the billable hour will resonate strongly: our members, as clients of law firms, have a very direct stake in that debate.
From your perspective, what makes the European legal market unique when it comes to AI adoption?
Europe is not Silicon Valley. That sounds obvious, but its implications run deep. Our legal market is linguistically diverse, highly regulated, and deeply attached to notions of professional responsibility and judicial independence. The push for sovereign A, European-built LLMs trained on European legal data and compliant with European law is not just a political talking point; it is a genuine operational need for many of our members.
At the same time, European lawyers and legal teams are innovating at a remarkable pace. The pressure to do more with less, the growing sophistication of in-house functions, and the increasing availability of purpose-built legal AI tools are creating real momentum. We are at an inflection point and events like Legal Innovators Europe are where that momentum becomes visible and actionable.
What do you hope ALOF members will take away from attending Legal Innovators Europe?
Three things, above all. First, inspiration seeing what peers and innovators across Europe are already doing is one of the most powerful drivers of change. Second, practical knowledge, the sessions are designed to be actionable, not just aspirational, and our members can bring real insights back to their teams. And third, connections the networking at Legal Innovators is genuinely high quality. These are people who are doing the work, facing the same challenges, and willing to share.
Any final message to the Legal Innovators Europe community?
